Red Zen Tea Travels to Japan

Melissa Salazar • May 19, 2023

This past January I was escorted to Japan by Kakegawa city officials and city Mayor. I had the opportunity to see the Tea gardens of Shizuoka, both Organic and non organic farms!

As a certified Tea Master I have had many amazing travel experiences and requests to visit tea country. It’s amazing how the Organic farms are much more rural looking with weeds and plants growing alongside the beautiful teas. I also had the chance to see the production of kakegaw’s famous fukamushi Cha. (deepsteamed green tea)

This Tea is very high in L-theanine a non protein amino acid. This tea has tons of antioxidants and vitamins and minerals. This tea is very special and is known in Kakegawa as their main export. I also was able to see the production of matcha (ceremonial grade powder green tea). The highlight of the trip was the Japanese tea ceremonies that I had the chance to attend and learn so much from. I attended a traditional matcha ceremony and a more casual loose leaf green tea (fukamushicha) ceremony.
