Matcha Demand is Skyrocketing — and Japan’s Harvest Fell Short

Dear Tea Lovers,
As many of you know, quality is at the heart of everything I do at Red’s Zen Tea — especially when it comes to our ceremonial-grade Matcha.
Due to a sharp global increase in demand and an unexpectedly poor Matcha harvest in Japan last year, the cost of sourcing premium-grade Matcha has risen by over 20%. Experts from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture reported that 2024 saw one of the lowest yields in nearly a decade, largely due to weather-related challenges and rising global exports.
Because I only source from trusted, small-batch farms in Uji and Nishio — where quality, sustainability, and traditional practices matter most — I refuse to cut corners. This means that in order to continue offering you the same exceptional tea, I will be adjusting my Matcha prices accordingly starting [insert date].
I wanted you to hear it directly from me, with full transparency. I deeply appreciate your continued support and understanding as we navigate these global shifts together.
Thank you for valuing not just tea — but integrity in every cup.
With gratitude and green blessings,
Melissa Salazar
